REVIEW – Today we’re taking a quick look at a new pen that is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. It’s the Mezmopen and it’s definitely worth taking a look if you like unique pens and/or fidget toys. Let’s go!

What is it?

The Mezmopen is a pen that doubles as a fidget toy.

What’s included?

  • Mezmopen pen
  • Magnetic tip

Design and features

Out of the box, the Mezmopen looks like an ordinary (although cool looking) pen. It features a sandblasted anodized aluminum body (also available in a titanium version). It will be available in 6 colors including the dark titanium version shown here.

What sets the Mezmopen apart from all the other pens in your pocket is the fact that you can pull it apart into two pieces. Yes, this pen uses magnets to hold the two halves together.

But there’s more to just having two pieces. It’s the tip extender mechanism. It’s a spring loaded ball that pushes the pen tip out when the two parts are connected (watch my video below to see how this works).

Nifty right? Now you might be wondering what type of insert the Mezmopen uses. It uses standard D1 refills which you can easily find on Amazon.

mezmopen 6

To replace the refill, you’ll need a pair of needlenose pliers to pull it out. I use my Leatherman ARC Multi-tool for this purpose.

It’s very easy to pull out the old refill and then slide in a new one.

See it in action

As you can see by watching the video above, this is a fun pen to play with. Yes, it writes, but the real feature of the Mezmopen is the fidget factor. You can snap it back and forth, spin it in different ways, and annoy everyone around you 😉

What I like about the Mezmopen

What needs to be improved?

  • Offer a pocket clip so it won’t roll away

Final thoughts

The Mezmopen is a pen for people who love to fidget with things. Since it uses D1 refills, it’s not the most wonderful pen in the world to write with, but I don’t think that’s really the point. It’s just fun pen to have around when you need to distract yourself from everyday boredom.

Price: $42.00
Where to buy: Kickstarter (rewards due to ship in March 2025)
